Default Doing any gun stuff this weekend?

I am thinking about putting the shotgun scope on my new 45/70, at least I am going to loctite the screws on the rail, I picked up some loctite yesterday.

I am toying with the idea of getting a pistol scope for the 500 magnum, but, I'd think I'd rather wait and see what the action job for the 45 Colt BFR is going to cost me. I didn't ask, I just dropped it off and said to do it.

I might go ahead and order the dies for the 500. A friend at work wants to take it to the range and shoot it next week, no problem with that, and I get all of the left over brass. Wouldn't you like to have a friend like me. You want to shoot my 500, just ask and I'll drop it off at the office next week when I am back in there.

    You?

Well if it stops raining I am going to sight in a 17 HMR and a .308. Then I am going to test several different bullets in another 17 HMR. Maybe bust a few caps on a couple Glocks whlie I'm at the range. Of course right now all I can do is dream about it because it is pouring rain.

Gonna hit the range later today since the weather is soo bad that I had to miss out on the Silencer Shoot!!

This should keep me entertained for a little bit.

No rain in S GA but I shot some yesterday morning. Luckily if I want to shoot I just walk out my back door. I have a range set up where I can shoot up to 100 yards.

My range is out behind my house but it is still outside. Rain has slacked off for now but I want to watch the FL/TN game. I guess it can wait until another time.

I could do that I suppose but my bench and backstop are about 400 yards behind the house. I do test some pistols and revolvers from time to time right here at the house. My BW does not like it because it scares her little miniature Schnauzer. Bad too I mean.

If you only knew how bad I want one. I was at Coal Creek Armory up in Ktown a while back and they had a suppressed 10/22. I think I actually started drooling right there in the store.

I'm going to pick up some scope rings in a while, mount the 1.5x4 shotgun scope on the 45/70. I loctited the lever rail down last night. I've still got to order a weaver mount rear sight, thats another $65 that I don't want to spend today.

I must be getting old, the shotgun scope is a 1.5x20. No variable magnification on it. I'm going to try a compact 3x9 that I have before I tighten the rings down.

The compact scope was too big around, and, I couldn't get it far enough to the rear to have good eye relief. I'll use the 1.5x shotgun scope for a while. I did kill some hogs with it last year. Same setup on another GG. (Gavin has it now.) I'll likely get another Simmons 3x9x32. I like the clarity of a Simmons, surprising for the money that you pay. Also, I like a 32mm scope on a short lever action. The scope doesn't overpower the size of the rifle. Here is what I ended up with. 1" groups at 100 yards on the other GG, we'll see how this one does.

I'm shooting 40gr's of IMR 3031 with a 350 gr bullet. About 1550 fps, a medium power load. Kill anything in Ga for 200 yards, if you know how to hold over past 125 or so yards. That is blue loctite in the photo.

Hogs? Never killed one over 75 yards. I'm plenty good for that. Best -

It works quite well. The longer eye relief, 5.5" helps tremendously with heavy loads. It can certainly take the recoil of heavy 45/70 rounds. I was getting bumped in the head at the range with full power loads, so imagine how that would have played out in the field. I decided at some point to start shooting medium powered loads, and went back to a standard rifle scope. It is kind of between the scout scope and regular scope set up. Easy to use. Don't let the low price of shotgun scopes fool you, either. They are tough.

I didn't mention, you need a shotgun scope that has a regular crosshair, not the type that have the round circle in place of the crosshairs. These are used by lots of people on the 45/70 gg's.

Don't forget about the longer eye relief. My box says 5.5" but it is closer to a measured 6".
